Report: Ajax respond to West Ham move for brilliant star Edson Alvarez with a price and are willing to sell

A report claims Ajax have responded to West Ham United’s move for brilliant star

A report claims Ajax have responded to West Ham United's move for brilliant star Edson Alvarez by giving a price and are willing to sell.

West Ham fans turned out in their thousands to celebrate on the route of the club's trophy parade last night.

And it effectively acted as a final goodbye to Declan Rice too.

Majority owner David Sullivan has confirmed what we’ve all known for the last two years, that Rice will be leaving this summer having stayed at the club for another year following the retirement of Mark Noble.

The beloved West Ham captain is being courted by the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Hammers are set to bank around £100m for Rice. Focus is already turning to who West Ham will replace Rice with.

As reported yesterday, James Ward-Prowse, Harvey Barnes and Ajax defensive midfield ace Edson Alvarez are prime targets.

There have been links to Portuguese star Palhinha at Fulham too.

The 62-cap Mexico international Alvarez is a more defensive minded midfielder than Rice has become.

But he is an excellent player in the Palhinha mould.

Now a new report claims Ajax have responded to West Ham United's move for brilliant star Alvarez by giving a price and are willing to sell.

The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg claims Ajax have told West Ham they want £40m plus £5m in add-ons for Alvarez.

And he claims the Dutch club are willing to sell at that price.

West Ham want to get him for less, though, which could scupper any deal, it is claimed.

"West Ham are looking to negotiate a lower fee for Álvarez, who has extensive Champions League experience, and that could hurt their chances of signing him," Steinberg says.

"They risk missing out on the 25-year-old to Borussia Dortmund, who have money to spend after agreeing to sell Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for €103m (£88.5m) plus add-ons that could reach about another €30m.

"West Ham hope Ajax settle for less after missing out on Champions League qualification."

It may also be worth noting channels of communication already exist between West Ham's board and Ajax following the bargain £22.5m sale of striker Sebastien Haller in 2021.
