Man Utd: £200k

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford could sign a new contract that will

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford could sign a new contract that will break Erik ten Hag's £200,000 per-week wage policy.

Manchester United are "going to break" Erik ten Hag's £200,000 per-week wage cap policy when Marcus Rashford signs a new deal at Old Trafford, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils star currently has less than 18 months remaining on his contract with the Manchester giants.

Last month, the Daily Mail reported that ten Hag was set to enforce a ‘Ronaldo rule’ of limiting first-team salaries to £200,000 per week, to avoid a repeat of the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo which resulted in the Portuguese superstar having his contract terminated back in November.

David de Gea is set to be the biggest earner impacted by the change, with his £375,000 weekly wages likely to be significantly reduced should he sign an extension to his current deal at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Rudy Galetti has recently told GiveMeSport that United are ready to finalise a new contract with Rashford, with reports suggesting that the £200k-per-week earner could be set for a £100,000 weekly salary increase.

Jones believes a wage cap rule is unlikely to work and thinks that if the club want to sign players in the mould of Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong, they must review the policy.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "I don't think a £200,000 per week wage cap works anyway. You've got players like Rashford who are going to break that with their next contracts. There is no way Rashford is going to be signing a new contract worth under £200,000 per week. If they want Frenkie de Jong, he's not going to do that either."

Rashford – who has recently been described as "unstoppable" by ten Hag – has been in excellent form for United this season and there are unlikely to be many complaints around the club should he sign a new deal with the Red Devils.

The 51-cap England international has managed to hit the back of the net 24 times whilst providing eight assists in 36 appearances under the Dutchman's rein, signifying how important he is in the final third for the side.

An average WhoScored rating of 7.11 for his displays in the Premier League for the current campaign ranks him as the side's third-best-performing player, indicating his vital role in ten Hag's chances of success in Manchester.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that there will be many inside or outside of Old Trafford that would begrudge Rashford for signing a new deal, which could potentially bring a premature end to ten Hag's new wage policy.
