Krones of Germany signed a final agreement in February to acquire Netstal Maschinen AG of Switzerland from KraussMaffei in Germany. Netstal supplies injection machines to mold PET preforms and caps for the beverage market as well as medical applications and thinwall packaging. Netstal will become part of Krones’ Filling and Packaging Technology business segment. The acquisition adds preform and closure molding to Krones’ capabilities in PET container stretch-blow molding, filling and packaging. Netstal also supports Krones’ strategy to diversify beyond beverage markets into medical/pharma, food and home/personal care.
Previous steps in this strategy include the 2018 acquisitions of MHT Mold & Hotrunner Technology of Germany, which builds PET preform injection molds and hot-runner systems; and a 70% interest in Integrated Plastics Systems AG of Switzerland, which designs bottles and preforms and acts as a system integrator for PET preform injection molding for beverage bottles.
Across all process types, sustainability was a big theme at NPE2024. But there was plenty to see in automation and artificial intelligence as well.
Follow these best practices to minimize loss of time, material and labor during color changes in molding containers from bottles to jerrycans. The authors explore what this means for each step of the process, from raw-material infeed to handling and reprocessing tails and trim.
