Federal officials report that the air quality in Central New York is gradually improving this morning. However, there is still enough smoke present to justify an "unhealthy" rating as of 7 a.m.

Still, the state's "air quality health advisory" remains in effect until midnight tonight. That means people should limit strenuous activity outside. People with pre-existing conditions such as asthma or heart disease should take extra care.

According to the CDC, "Wildfire smoke can make anyone sick, but people with asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), or heart disease, or who are pregnant and children and responders are especially at risk."
